Wait wait. Aaron Sorkin writing the book. Danny Elfman composing. Hugh Jackman starring. With lyrics from Glenn Slater and direction from Jack O’Brien.

Next up is a first reading of the script, scheduled for January. After that, Elfman estimates that the show could open in early 2012 — though we wouldn’t be surprised to see it on Broadway even sooner if the reading goes well.

Sign me up.

Sounds good talent-wise but I’m going to hold judgment because… well, creating for the stage is not the same as what we know these guys can do in film and television. O’Brien is fine, so we’ll skip over him. Sorkin, hm… he majored in musical theatre [if I’m not mistaken] and he is a Sondheim fan, so hopefully he knows his shit and can write a decent book that’ll give way to perfect musical moments. I’m actually less nervous about Elfman’s involvement but that’s only because I have something go off of - sort of. Slater, however…. eek. I only know of his work on The Little Mermaid and Webber’s Phantom sequel. But who knows, maybe he’ll be inspired by the book and Elfman’s music?

We shall see! Excited nevertheless, of course. :)
