The show keeps trying to position Karen and Ivy as equally-deserving of the part, when Hilty very thoroughly outclasses McPhee whenever the production numbers start. (One of the strikes allegedly held against Ivy is that she’s too-practiced, while Karen is more natural, and yet you almost always can see McPhee working hard, where this stuff comes easily to Hilty.)

Basically. Regardless, I’m clearly gonna have occasional issues with this show outside of Broadway-related things. e.g. Karen’s “Why do I always have to be sexy? I wish I was fat.” And it’s not just that she said it, it’s the fact that it was never addressed and therefore allowed. (via bitcaw)

I still don’t understand why a pop song for a musical theatre audition for a Marilyn Monroe musical is a fantastic idea. This show is going to have to improve a lot to impress me.

Yeah. It’s a known fact that there is a list of songs you just don’t do at an audition. (Because they won’t think twice about you; unless you’re Julia Murney singing “People”.) Heck, there’s even a handful of shows, too. And doing a pop song when Marilyn was big around the golden age? No. That wouldn’t be smart at all. I wish we saw Ivy’s audition…
